This is the video from yesterday’s Community Day of Service at Apostles. Rich did a great job editing this piece and John and Gary were great partners in filming this piece!
Apostles Community Day
Today I had a chance to film Community Day with The Church of The Apostles.
Over 250 volunteers from Apostles participated in a day of service to show the love of Jesus to the people of the city of Atlanta. This was a day about meeting the physical needs of people in our city so that they would see the love of Jesus for them.
Apostles partnered with Atlanta Mission for the day of service and was able to be a part of number of projects including:
• Building planters for a new urban community vegetable garden near the Shepherd’s Inn.
• Painting dorm rooms and showers in the Shepherd’s Inn.
• Organizing donated items in three of the thrift stores run by Atlanta Mission.
• Working with children in a one-day Bible school teaching then about temporal verses eternal gifts.
I should have the video of the day that I can post sometime tomorrow!
Apostles.org Site Launch
Today I flipped the switch on the new Apostles.org website for The Church of The Apostles. This new website is built on WordPress and now gives the church a very flexible platform now and into the future. Here are a few site highlights…
- Blog - This is the first time that Apostles has utilized a blog as part of its online presence. The initial content will be articles that are now published in a print publication and over time will be supplemented with content created just for the web. The blog gives the church the ability to tell the stories of what God is doing through the website.
- Upcoming Events - One of the biggest issues with most church sites is that you have to manually add and remove events and promotional graphics on a precise schedule – there’s nothing worse than advertising an event that ended last week. This site automates that process. Events, posts, and even graphics can be scheduled to appear and disappear at any date and time.
- Media Page – The site has unified the media section of the site. The new media page features colorful graphics and absolute URLs for each of media entries. The great thing is that every sermon posted to the site can be linked to directly making it much easier to promote sermons through social media and by email. The structure makes it easier for the message to spread.
- Flexible Layouts – The wordpress theme that we chose for the site included some great short codes that allowed for really cool layouts. The goal on the site was to present a lot of information but to make it organized and simple for the end user. Examples of this are the Children’s page and the Women’s Ministry page. On these pages we used tabs and toggles to organize large amounts of content into bite-sized chunks.
There are many more enhancements on the back end of this site that will allow us to continue to enhance this site over time. I’m really excited about the site.
Check out the site for yourself » apostles.org.
What do you think? Any suggestions on how it could be even better?
If Starbucks Marketed Like the Church
I know this video has been around for a while, but watching it again today made me realize that I have to continually be on my guard to make sure that I try to see things in my church the way that those on the outside see them. Its the things that we just take for granted that the rest of the world find ridiculous or offensive. All they really want is a cup of coffee…
Atlanta Union Mission Video
Today I want to share with you one of the videos that we showed yesterday at Apostles. I really love the look that Rich Fiallo gave this b-roll and the way this story turned out.
I have a lot of respect for the work that Atlanta Union Mission does and I’m proud to say that I’m part of a group that supports this ministry.
