Cancun Trip | 5th Anniversary

Leslie and I just returned from an amazing trip to Cancun, Mexico. We spent four days at the Excellence Rivera Cancun resort. I highly recommend it!

We have said for several years that we wanted to do something a little bigger for our fifth anniversary and, thanks to a recommendation from my brother, we found the perfect trip.

After a really busy summer I loved just laying on the beach and spending all my time with the one that I love more than anyone else in the world. This trip was like a second honeymoon but better! Leaving the country meant spending much of the day disconnected from my persistant online world and forced me to be fully present with my bride.

Leslie has been the best thing that has ever come into my life and over the last five years she has taught me so much! I love that she keeps me balanced. Leslie is someone that I can talk to about anything, but she always has a unique, practical view that forces me to think about what I am doing. She is perfect for me.

Thank you for five wonderful years Leslie! I love you!

Lake Weekend

This weekend we took the opportunity to visit my grandparents at their lake house in north Georgia. I really loved having a couple of days to sit and talk with two very wise people who have had – and will continue to have – a profound impact on my life.

We talked a lot about family and the past. We also talked about the future, which for my grandparents is a tough subject. Its really encouraging though since we know that at the end of their lives it will be a cause of celebration.

The highlight of the weekend was when my granddad caught a 12lb catfish (see the pictures after the break). My grandmother fed us way too much food and we simply enjoyed the beautiful weather in the mountains and the company of family. At one point we even broke out the old 8mm films from the 50′s and 60′s.

Check out the picture gallery from the weekend after the break…

Heading to NAB

Today i’m heading out to Las Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) expo and convention. I’m really excited about seeing a TON of new gear and learning about how we can take our production to the next level.

This year I’m really looking for solutions in a couple of specific areas…

  • Streaming Solutions – We’re doing a lot of live and on demand streaming  on our own at Apostles, so I want to explore the latest in streaming.
  • Routing – As we move more of our facility over to HD we need to look at how our routing will change with it. I’m excited to see what’s new in the last two years.
  • Editing Software – I’ll be honest – Final Cut Pro needs work. I’m going to be looking at what editing software is available what trying to see what the pros and cons are. Apple, are you listening?
  • 3D – I’m really just curious about this one. I keep hearing about 3D television and I’m anxious to see what it looks like and what it takes to produce it.
  • Unknown – Sometimes the best stuff at NAB is the stuff that I don’t know I’m going to see. Sometimes the best find is at a booth from a company that you’ve never heard of.

I’ll try to post some of what I find this week here and on twitter.

Anything you want me to check out for you?

This past weekend Leslie and I visited Franklin Tennessee for the weekend and took a trip out to Arrington Vineyards. We arrived just before sunset and walked up on the hill overlooking the vineyards. We took advantage of a beautiful day and sunset to capture a few pictures…
